Polna lies at the border between Moravia and Bohemia at a woody region limited by towns- Zdar nad Sazavou, Havlickuv Brod, Jihlava and Trebic, right at the heart of Ceskomoravska Vrchovina. It became a strategic point for business and army thanks to its position in the centre of Vysocina Polna. Nowadays Polna is a pleasant town with numerous light industry, nice surroundings and famous “Mrkvancova” festival. It can be ranked among the biggest ones in Vrchovina and is hold every second Sunday in September. The most important monument is the Dean cathedral “Nanebevzeti Panny Marie” dating from 1700 and 1707 by the original plans of the Italian master Dominik de Angeli. The church of St. Anna with a hospital built in 1893- 1894, the cemetery church of St. Barbora from 1720- 1725 with the ground plan shaped as the Greek crucifix are also very interesting. Today’s chateau, originally a castle from 13th century, rebuilt into the Renaissance and Baroque style presents a group of fragments of architectural objects with various style conception. After the huge fire in 1794 it hasn’t been renewed into the original size. It serves as a museum now, at the right wing museum exhibitions take place there.
